Tudor Oak and Polychrome Painted Wall Settle, North Devon / Somerset, circa 1520-1540

The Settle with upper section having four crocketed finials divided by three Renaissance carved horizontal panels incorporating the Arms of the Phelips family of Somerset. Above three pairs of bold linenfold vertical panels, all retaining original Polychrome decoration. With part original bench, retaining original under supports with a 17th century seat board.
Provenance: The Phelips family of Somerset, builders of Monatcute House 1598. The Wall Settle pre-dates the building of Monatcute House by some 60 to 80 years.
